Axat aude

 

Axat is a thriving small town in the Aude department with all amenities including an excellent restaurant - La Petite Ourse - specialising in local fresh food.  

New at La Petite Ourse, the restaurant in the village has opened a wine cellar where it is possible to taste and buy wines to take home or enjoy at the restaurant with a meal.

Selection of Organic wines and small passionate wine growers who have returned to the old traditions of wine making and harvest their grapes by hand, producing unique flavours.

Also a vibrant bar serving snacks, and a tea room. There is a lovely picnic area beside the river.  the old Chateau overlooks the village and Le Vieux Pont (the Old Bridge) is very lovely as well as being one of the oldest bridges over the Aude river.

The village also boasts a 24 hour petrol station, Bank with cash machine, a Cinema and a Tabac selling local guides and maps etc.  Its also possible to buy English newspapers here.

In addition to the excellent restaurant in the village there is another excellent restaurant about 2 kms away - Le Catharome, and within about 20 minutes of the house we have around 15 different restaurants including the fantastic Maison de Terrior at Maury complete with Michelin star and the world famous 'Le Grand Duc' hotel/restaurant as well.  There really is food to suit all tastes from simple (but good) Pizza to 8 course tasting menus complete with wine with every course!

If you have the time you must go white water rafting (see separate information).  A once in a lifetime experience.  With regular departures in the village.

The village is also a major centre for walking, climbing, cycling and fishing. (see links)

There is a fabulous open air heated swimming pool 5 minutes walk from the house (see links).

Axat is a delight to just stroll around and there are numerous walks varying between 10 minutes and 5 hours. Free maps and guides are available for loan to our all guests who stay with us at our bed and breakfast.
