About us

The Bridgestock family is small and consists of Paul and his wife Val, one little friendly dog, Cartouche, a little black and white Shetland Sheepdog (who loves everybody but is well trained and will not bother guests, unless you want him to anyway!) and two cats.  One (Lucky Puss) is around 27 years old and spends most days sleeping under our bed - read the story of Lucky Puss here!  We also have another very friendly ginger cat called Chance.  Now 5 years old, we rescued her as a tiny kitten from certain starvation and death on our first day living permanently here in France.  She has been known to sneak in through windows looking for an extra meal but she loves people and if you like cats she will like you!  We realise that not everyone likes animals and they will keep out of your way if you wish.

Paul retired after many years working for an Interior design company (Fired Earth).  All paint and tiles, etc in the house are from the luxurious Fired Earth range and Paul put his design skills to work when restoring this lovely old building to a high standard.

Paul looks after guests and is a very good cook.  He is also fairly generous in pouring wine and all our guests are offered complimentary drinks on arrival.  You are assured a very warm welcome at our bed and breakfast here in Axat in the Aude Valley.  Val works from the office in the house through the day but is on hand to help welcome and look after guests in the evening.
